| Background to the Competition | |||
In 2001 Councillor Susan Band, the then Chairman of Hart District Council initiated a competition in partnership with the Rotary Club of Hart, to find the Hart Young Musician of the Year. The competition was launched in 2002 and was greeted with such enthusiasm and support from the young musicians and their teachers that it is now a regular annual event.
The aim
of the competition is to foster the enjoyment of
music and performance in the young musicians of Hart
and adjacent districts. Prizes are awarded to the finalists who
perform before a public audience but this is above all a friendly
event for the enjoyment of performers
and audience alike.
In setting
the musical standards of the competition our thanks go to the Worshipful Company of Musicians who provide us, through their
local member, Frank Fowler, adjudicators of stature and eminence in
the musical world.
We are
delighted that the competition has fostered
the musical careers of several of our winners who have gone
on to study at the Royal Academy of Music and other colleges round
the country and to perform professionally.
You can see their CVs by clicking on Past
Winners.
The competition
is made possible by the support of individuals and organisations within
the local community. A
steering committee led by Susan Band guides the overall effort and
is responsible for musical standards, while the competition logistics,
and particularly the organisation and running of the Heats and Finals,
are the responsibility of the Rotary Club of Hart. |
